Air, Land and Sea: Drones Surpass Soldiers in War

Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Deputy Commander-in-chief, Colonel Andrii Lebedenko claims that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are now outperforming artillery on the battlefield. Alongside infantry and artillery, drones are now considered an important element in war for both sides.

Colonel Lebedenko highlighted the fast-growing technological progress witnessed during the ongoing war with Russia. The commander-in-chief explains at the Precision hackathon: “Our priority is finding the most effective solutions to safeguard our soldiers’ lives”, emphasizing on the focus on the military’s innovation.

Striving for further improvements in drone technology, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are looking forward to enhanced machine vision, artificial intelligence integration, advanced electronic warfare capabilities, and drone swarms. These systems were crucially used in several combat areas, operating in the air, on land, and at sea.

Ukraine’s military is now focusing on developing systems capable of ranged beyond 100 kilometers operations. Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Colonel Vadym Sukharevsky states that the military has now acquired significant expertise with tactical drones, as a fleet of over 165 aerial vehicles has been launched.

Further collaborations are to be expected between Ukraine and manufacturers to develop next-generation unmanned systems.
