China Uses Starlink Satellites to Detect US Air Fighters and Drones
China has found a new method of detecting stealth aircrafts using Starlink satellites as precise radar systems rather than the traditional ones. The real-world experiment was described by Chinese media as `unprecedented´ and `never done before´, as it will allow China to detect the US stealth aircrafts and potentially be used in future warfares. SpaceX, the US company that makes the Starlink satellites, is not involved in this experiment and cannot intervene. Consequently, if SpaceX intervenes and stops the satellites from transmitting, the whole region will be affected and other countries like Japan and the Philippines will be disrupted.
Explaining the experiment:
Before explaining the experiment, how radars work? Basically, radars send beams and if they receive reflected beams back, it means that there is an object. If the object is large, more beams are reflected. One problem occurs, certain flying objects with stealth technology cannot be detected because they disperse the incoming radar beams and makes it difficult for radars to detect them. The video below showcases the B-2 Stealth Bomber aircraft and its non-detectable technology:
China used a small DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone in the experiment to see if the Starlink trick will work. The drone has a cross-section and cannot be detected in radars due to its small size. This time, researchers used the radio signals of a Starlink satellite instead of radar beams. When an object flies through the radio signals emitted by Starlink, the radio waves get scattered which disrupts the radio signal.
China developped its own algorithm to determine the drone´s position with their antenna receiving the small signal turbulences. This method will allow China to detect American stealth fighters that are difficult to detect like B-2, F-22 and F-35.
The conflict between China and USA is heating up and potential warfare might start in any moment, especially with the US supporting the Taiwanese side. China is racing time to produce its own stealth aircrafts, if not then the air defense systems will help them secure their airspace.
