From Amazon pausing drone delivery operations to a new drone detection in Hong Kong, and an airspace security partnership between Skysafe and the PGA. According to reports, Amazon has stopped its Prime Air drone deliveries in Arizona and Texas due to the crash of two drones at an Ortegon testing facility in December. A spokesperson from Amazon stated that the company is currently doing software changes to its MK30 delivery drone, and the services will carry on when the updates are finished and approved by the FAA.
Drone detection in Hong Kong
Another interesting update in the commercial drone industry is the unveiling of a programmable periscope aimed to detect drones flying out of sight. Report from Hong Kong shared this collaboration between City university and Nanjing University of Science and Technology, as this periscope uses `low-cost, ultra-thin metasurface to modulate the amplitude, phase and polarization of surrounding light´ as stated per the report.
Partnership between Skysafe and PGA Tour Event
The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California- the world´s premier golf series- is collaborating with Skysafe to ensure drone detection and ensure quality viewer experience, as the event is being interrupted several times by annoying drones and can be a threat if they are carrying a payload. According to Skysafe, this year´s event is the third the company has secured. The company´s team spotted 12 rogue drones last year that were flying during the event. Consequently, nine were arrested.
Chief Revenue Officer of Skysafe, Melissa Swisher, quoted: `With our technology, tournament organizers gain real-time visibility into potential aerial threats, such as rogue drones on the course, enabling rapid responses to unauthorized activity,´.
