Nokia´s 5G Drones Steal the Spotlight at Commercial UAV Expo 2024
Commercial UAV Expo 2024, one of the favorite events for drones professionals seeking new technologies and innovations, was held in Las Vegas, Nevada to showcase the latest technological improvements.
Nokia - which had announced in April a strategic partnership to improve service drones across North America and the Nevadan desert - stole the spotlight with their remote demonstration that showed impressive capabilities and results. Nokia´s Global Head of Sales - Devices, Mayank Bhatia, surprised the guests with different screens showing multiple views of an operated drone 80 miles away in the Nevada desert.
Mayank quotes: ,,We’re confident that this collaboration aims to leverage Nokia’s comprehensive Drone Networks to expand 5G-connected uncrewed operations, including beyond visual line of sight capabilities in the North American market, We expect this partnership to boost efficiency and reduce costs, significantly benefiting the market in general and our customers in particular´´.
The drone was operated in a place with 40°C temperature and severe winds of 3 to 8 knots. The goal of this demo is to replicate real conditions that Law Enforcement will face if an emergency occurs. Consequently, Nokia´s drone took off rapidly from its air-conditionned box in a remote area and captured a clear view of the intended targets.
Users can select the type of sensors, be it traditional imagery or thermal, to easen up night searches. This leads to a new business model of drones that will facilitate first responders´ tasks by providing them with a US made solution, along with the collaboration with a successful company like Nokia.
Nokia looks forward to enhancing Public Safety, Emergency Services, and other sectors with these new 5G-connected drone models. The Finnish company has partenerd previously with Swisscom Broadcast to launch 300 drones across Switzerland to help maintain the country´s public safety.
