Beach erosion tracked using drones at Florida Flagler County
How to track the beach erosion by drones? Flagler County at Florida knows the answer! Monitoring the Atlantic coastline, their pilots obtained special Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) permission to launch drones beyond the line of sight.
The initiative will allow the county to analyze the entire coastline during harsh weather events, providing important data on storm impacts and sand loss.
County´s drone coordinator, Bruno Luna, says that they are pushing the edge on technology. She adds: ´Without this waiver, there´s really no efficient way of doing this.´
A few weeks ago, first set of images was available with accurate information, providing officials with erosion locations. The Federal Aviation Administration waiver will offer help by assisting in beach restoration project and will be used for public benefit tasks. This is seen as an important step towards coastline protection and serving the community.
